What students learn
Students learn a wide range of subjects in the NSW curriculum. They build skills, think creatively and prepare for life beyond school.
The curriculum is structured around six key learning areas (KLAs) as outlined by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA):
- Creative Arts
- English
- Mathematics
- Human Society and its Environment (HSIE), which includes History and Geography
- Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PD/H/PE)
- Science and Technology
Through these KLAs, we provide a well-rounded education that fosters knowledge, creativity, critical thinking, and personal growth.

At Meadow Flat Public School, we give the right support to help advanced or talented learners grow and do their best.
We notice these students early. They may learn quickly or show strong skills in creativity, leadership, problem solving or sport. We help them stay challenged with lessons and activities that match their strengths.

Parent teacher interviews are held in Term 1. During this meeting teachers and parents share information about the child, note the strengths of the child and discuss areas for development.

Fitness sessions occur daily and consist of short sessions of physical activity. Wednesday is our sports day, and students need to wear their sports uniforms.
Our school is part of the Bathurst Small Schools Association. This is made up of 6 small schools in the Bathurst area.
We combine our schools to run our swimming carnival, athletics carnival, gala days, cross country and to form sporting teams. Students who turn 8 years or older are involved in NSW Primary School Sports Association pathways.
Students in Kindergarten and Year 1 will be involved in only some of these Bathurst Small Schools sports events.
Our learning approach
Our school uses explicit teaching. This means we clearly tell students what they are learning, why it is important and how to do it step by step. Explicit teaching helps students understand new ideas by breaking them into smaller parts.
Learning at our school is student-centred, inclusive and practical. We are committed to equity and access. We support all learning styles and needs. Our teachers use proven teaching strategies. They take part in ongoing professional development to stay up to date with best teaching practice.
Our learning approach includes:
- real-world learning: hands-on tasks, group work and exploring new ideas
- technology: to help students learn and build digital skills
- flexible teaching: the right support for each student, with a focus on wellbeing
- community connections: through excursions and local programs.
